In the scenic hills of Gapyeong, South Korea, Petite France (쁘띠프랑스) is a charming cultural village that transports visitors straight to the heart of Europe. This extraordinary attraction, inspired by French architecture and culture, offers a delightful escape from the hustle of city life. Whether you're a fan of the classic novella "The Little Prince" or simply looking for a unique day trip, Petite France promises a memorable experience. When I arrived, at first, I was a little overwhelmed by the colorful houses and kinda kitschy vibe, haha. ^^ But while exploring this place open-minded, I realized it’s a nice chance for an unique experience. :) So, here's why Petite France should be on your travel itinerary list, too.

European Getaway in the Korean Countryside

French-Inspired Architecture

From the moment you step into Petite France, you’ll feel as though you’ve been swept away to what is supposed to be a lovely, small French village. The vibrant, pastel-colored buildings with their characteristic European design create a fairytale-like ambiance. Wander through narrow streets, explore charming courtyards and especially admire the picturesque views of the surrounding countryside. Each building is carefully crafted to reflect French architecture, making it an interesting backdrop for your photos.

The Little Prince Theme

Petite France is also known as the "Little Prince" theme park, paying homage to the beloved novella by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. Throughout the village, you’ll find numerous references to the story, including statues, murals and exhibits dedicated to the adventures of the Little Prince. Fans of the book will appreciate the attention to detail and the opportunity to relive the magic of this timeless tale. I wonder, what it is with South Korea and the “Little Prince”. It was a very popular theme in Busan’s Gamcheon Culture Village, as well. :)

Cultural Experiences

Art and Antiques

Petite France is home to a fascinating collection of French art and antiques. The European Doll House showcases a variety of antique dolls from different eras, while the Orgel House features beautifully crafted music boxes. These exhibits offer a glimpse into European craftsmanship and artistry, adding an educational dimension to your visit.

Performances and Activities

The village hosts a variety of cultural performances and hands-on activities that are fun for visitors of all ages. Enjoy traditional puppet shows, marvel at the musical performances on antique organs, or try your hand at making your own Little Prince-themed crafts. These interactive experiences are designed to immerse you in French culture and create lasting memories. :)
