In the beautiful Gapyeong region, The Garden of Morning Calm is one of South Korea’s most enchanting and serene destinations. Spanning over 30,000 square meters, this botanical garden offers a soothing escape from the buzz of city life, showcasing Korea's natural beauty through impressively designed landscapes. Whether you’re a nature enthusiast, a photography lover, or simply seeking a peaceful retreat - The Garden of Morning Calm promises a refreshing experience. I went here, when the day gradually came to an end, and with the evening hours arriving, beautiful light arrangements started shining everywhere in this garden. It felt like being in an enchanted place and it was nothing but a stunning experience. <3 Here’s why you as well should add this serene haven to your travel itinerary.

A Floral Paradise

Seasonal Spectacles

The Garden of Morning Calm is a year-round attraction, with each season offering a unique and breathtaking display of flora. In spring, the garden bursts into life with vibrant cherry blossoms, azaleas and magnolias. Summer brings lush greenery and colorful blooms, including roses, hydrangeas and irises. Autumn transforms the garden into a tapestry of red, orange and yellow hues, thanks to the maple and ginkgo trees. Winter, meanwhile, blankets the garden in snow, creating a magical wonderland accentuated by the annual Lighting Festival, where the garden is adorned with dazzling lights and festive decorations. I was there in November, so no snow yet, but the lights were already up. :)

Themed Gardens

The Garden of Morning Calm features several themed sections, each thoughtfully designed to highlight different aspects of Korea's natural beauty and gardening artistry. The Hometown House Garden, inspired by traditional Korean houses, showcases native plants and a nostalgic ambiance. The Sunken Garden, with its symmetrical design and vibrant flowers, offers a stunning visual treat. The Millennial Juniper Tree, believed to be over 1,000 years old, stands as a testament to the garden's deep connection to Korean history and nature.

Have Cultural Experiences

Korean Aesthetics

The garden’s design philosophy is deeply rooted in traditional Korean aesthetics, emphasizing harmony with nature. Visitors can appreciate the seamless blend of natural landscapes with nicely placed sculptures, rock formations and water features. This harmonious design creates a peaceful and meditative environment, perfect for relaxation.

Art and Exhibits

In addition to its botanical wonders, The Garden of Morning Calm hosts various art exhibits and cultural events throughout the year. The garden’s art galleries feature works by local artists, while seasonal festivals showcase traditional Korean music, dance and crafts. These cultural elements add depth to the visitor experience, providing insights into Korea's rich heritage.

The Garden of Morning Calm is a photographer’s paradise, offering countless picturesque spots and scenic views. Whether you’re capturing the delicate petals of spring flowers, the vibrant autumn foliage, or the enchanting winter lights - this garden provides endless opportunities for beautiful photos. The Pond Garden, with its reflective waters and surrounding blooms, is a perfect place to relax. Additionally, the garden’s cafes and restaurants serve a variety of refreshments, including traditional Korean teas and snacks, allowing visitors to savor the experience at a leisurely pace.

The Garden of Morning Calm is conveniently located near other popular attractions, making it an ideal addition to your Gapyeong itinerary. Just a short drive away is Nami Island, famous for its tree-lined pathways and scenic beauty. Combining a visit to The Garden of Morning Calm with a trip to Nami Island allows you to experience two of South Korea’s most enchanting destinations in one day.
